Dr. John Mark Harrison grew up in Alabama, became a Christ-follower at the age of 8 and surrendered to the ministry while in college. God led him through Student Ministry, into strategic development of multi-sites as a Campus Pastor, and then to the Lead Pastor role at Apex Baptist Church. At Apex, he is currently a strong denominational voice for the state of North Carolina, recognized for his giftedness in leadership development, discipleship and Bible-centered expository preaching. A dedicated shepherd who loves the people God has entrusted to him, John Mark is very passionate about Christ and His church. His favorite part of ministry is to see people come to know Christ, learn to walk with Christ, find out what gifts and abilities God has given them, and then discover their ministry in the church. He appreciates leadership challenges and desires to lead the church to powerfully influence its community for Christ. His leadership style is strategic and collaborative, believing a healthy relationship of trust fuels this collaboration and energizes the team to work together. He is convinced that there must be an intentional process of education in the church and a pathway of developing disciples and leaders in order to impact our world with the gospel.
First Baptist Concord family,
It is an honor to be considered for the position of Senior Pastor at First Baptist Concord. This church has a rich history of missions, outreach, worship, innovation and ministry excellence. I believe the Lord will continue the impactful ministry of First Baptist in the years to come.
Since we were contacted a few months ago, my wife Brigitte and I have been in an intense season of prayer seeking the Lord’s will for our future. God has opened our heart and we believe He is drawing us to Concord.
I’m very thankful for the many months of careful work, time and effort of the Senior Pastor Search Team. They have spent countless hours praying, listening to sermons and talking with us about the church. You should be very proud of the way they have represented Concord. I am very thankful for the care, hospitality, substantive conversations, and careful evaluation this team has offered me.
My heartbeat is to be a part of a church described in Acts 9:31, “So the church throughout all Judea and Galilee and Samaria had peace and was being built up. And walking in the fear of the Lord and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit, it multiplied.” Let’s pray that this type of miraculous movement of God’s Spirit would happen in First Baptist Concord, and Knoxville will be forever impacted for the Kingdom of God.
For His Glory,
Pastor John Mark
